Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native, born in Houston on the 17th April in 1972. William John Garner is her father. He worked as chemical engineers for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local school. His father worked as a chemical engineer which is why she wanted to be like her father. Then she moved into New York in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. She was a chef at the restaurant in New York, and was a part of Broadway productions. On the television series "Felicity," she had an appearance in a brief scene. (It is on this show that she met the man she married, Scott Foley. Garner was given her first major performance on the screen in "13 Goin' on 30", a romantic comedy which was well-received. She played a teenage woman trapped in the adult body. Garner chose Gary Winick for the role of director. The two continued working together on other projects up to the time Winick passed away in 2011. The year 2009 was the first time Garner became an artist ambassador by Save the Children U.S.A. This role involves the promotion of nutrition and literacy in the US and early elementary education. From 2014 onwards, Garner has been a part of the trustees' board of this group, promoting early childhood education. As a member of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) program's ambassador team Garner has visited families on a regular basis to coach them on ways to motivate their children to achieve.
